Welcome!

The Soaring Eagles United States Geocachers Association (SEUSA) is a geocaching group for kids ages ten through eighteen. Our mission: to educate all people about geocaching and to get America’s youth involved. Started and run all by kids including EagleO-10 (age 14) and StillwaterGeoff (age 14), we go on monthly cache hunts and hikes and have monthly meetings. We also hold annual travel bug races and are currently planning a campout to Mount Marcy, New York’s highest peak, for the fall.

Feel free to browse and even set up an account on our website. The website including its forums, downloads, links and everything else is for all of the geocaching community. However, just because you have an account here, does not entitle you to attend our meetings, become a director, pay dues, etc. For this you must be a SEUSA Full member. If you are interested in becoming a full member, you must be between the ages of 10 and 18 and live in the United States. If you would like to apply, contact us at  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it for more information and an application.

We want everyone to get enjoyment out of our website. We encourage you to contact our Administrator with any ideas, comments, suggestions or concerns you may have. Also, if you experience anything inappropriate or anything that should not be on the site, please let us know as soon as possible. Our current website administrator and webmaster is:

March Website Stats
Tuesday, 01 April 2008
WEBSITEMarch 2008 was another great month for the SEUSA website! We had 495 unique visitors and 3230 visits! Our bandwidth broke 4.3G, mainly because of the recently uploaded videos. The most popular days of the week were Tuesday and Thursday and the most popular times were between 3 and 6pm. 66% of visitors only stayed on for zero to thirty seconds, though14% were on for thirty minutes to one hour. The most popular page, besides the home page was actually the podcast feed! 61% of users used windows and 48% used Internet Explorer. Most visitors found our site be entering the direct address while others came from other geocaching and local sites. 35% of all visitors added our site to their favorites. There are new blog winners to see in the Bolggers Hall of Fame. Great month and I cant wait to see how April turns out!

Crane Mountain Hike
Thursday, 27 March 2008

EVENTSThis month, SEUSA members hiked to the summit of Crane Mountain in the southern Adirondacks. The mountain offered fantastic views of  the southern Adirondacks, of which were all lower than the summit. To the west, Gore Mountain was visible and to the north, members got their first glimpse of the Adirondack High Peaks, where they will be trekking in August for Expedition Marcy. Peaking out between two trees was the majestically snow-covered giant that is Mount Marcy. The hike was a tough, and moderately steep to the top and much more fun on the way down to Crane Mountain pond than down to the base of the mountain. Luckily, the snow that was on the mountain was packed down and frozen enough to allow walking without snowshoes. All in all, it was a great day to be hiking!

A video has been added to the videos page and podcast about the trip and photos have been added to the gallery and downloads section. If you were there, please vote in the new poll asking "Was Crane Mountain Your Fevorite Hike We've Done?" The results should be interesting!

As a sidenote, you may have noticed that there is a new look to the SEUSA website. This is due simply to a common change in the template. Everything is still here. Let me know what you think!

One Year of SEUSA Website
Friday, 15 February 2008

WEBSITENext month will be the one year anniversary of the creation of www.seusa-geocaching.org. Before that we used www.freewebs.com/seusa as our first website and than went to http://seusa.wetpaint.com. Along with both those sites, we used http://seusa.forum5.com as our forum. Boy, have we come a long way!

Now that we have been using HostGator for one year, it is time to pay for the site again. We just paid for the domain name. The domain name, which costs 15 dollars, is seusa-geocaching.org and everything under that. This is really our "name" on the internet. We also pay for the hosting. The hosting holds all the files under the domain name. Everything that you see is saved there. This costs about $85. We have not yet paid this. This amount of money is a stretch for our group to come up with. We would greatly appreciate any donations. If you are willing to dinate, we will need them very soon. Thanks a lot!

New SEUSA Websites!
Saturday, 09 February 2008

NEWSAs of today, we now have two new SEUSA websites up and running! At http://marcy.seusa-geocaching.org/, there is a website dedicated to SEUSA Expedition Marcy. Here you can find gear, links and a forum all dedicated to this August's trip to the High Peaks. We also have a website running at http://admintrainer.seusa-geocaching.org. This website is for a SEUSA Administrator Training Ground (SATG). Here, those who are becomming website Administrators, Managers, Editors, etc, can get used to the CMS we use. Check there every once in a while to see what they've done and to bug them! Treat them like they can do anything. Part of training is learning how to deal with the members. Tell them what you want to see. I'll have more info on my trainees a little later.

New Website!
Wednesday, 30 January 2008

WEBSITEAs you can see, we now have a new look and feel to seusa-geocaching.org! We recently installed a new Content Managemant System called Joomla! rather than PHPNuke, which is what we have been using. There are a few differences. Joomla! is more focused on content and pages. It is now much easier to view and publish a page. What I mean by page, is a normal page with only type on it, as opposed to a component like the forum, links, downloads and calendar pages. Joomla! allows much more customization of the website. There are also a lot more components available to allow us to have pretty much everything here. If you want, feel free to find a component that you may want to see integrated into the site. We are running Joomla! version 1.0.

NOTE TO PREVIOUS MEMBERS: Unfortunately, we were not able to save the database from the old website. Because of this, we could not save the member information, links, downloads and forum posts. Things may be a little different until we can get it all set up again. Therefore, all those people who were members on the old site, will need to set up their account again in order to log in. We are very sorry for the inconvienence. As always, if you have any questions, comments, concerns or ideas, feel free to contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Thanks!
